2014: Now what do I wear?

WOW...it's almost another new year!  Crazy how these things tend to just sneak up on us.

Another new year means another year to celebrate!  Now, I know how much we all love talking about getting all dolled up in a cute, sparkly cocktail for that Hollywood style NYE party, but in reality, most of us are just going to hang out with a few close friends or family and watch the 'ol ball drop on the flat screen.  Well, those are my plans anyways. Though, with my friends, we always tend to throw in a theme like "ugly sweater party" or "people of Walmart', that was last years and yes...that was a fun one!  Anyways, if you aren't planning on going to some big gala where the champagne is flowing from those cool stacked glass towers, then how do you know what to wear?  Well, here are a few of the upcoming trends that I recently discussed on Rebecca Regnier's Full Plate television program which airs on my local ABC affiliate.  These are just some of my favorite fashion styles for 2014, so maybe this will help you decide just what to wear if you aren't going for that over the top glam look.  Oh, special thanks to Ragazza Boutique in Perrysburg and Sylvania, Ohio for lending me the looks to use as my visual examples for the segment!

Longer length hems.  I happen to love this one!  Say goodbye to the mini and hello tea length!  So lady-like and classy.  Skirts that hit just at the middle of the calf are vintage and classic.  Not quite sure about going with a longer length just yet?  Chose an asymmetrical or tiered hem.  Oh, and if you are worried about wearing this trend due to your height (or maybe lack-there-of) no worries, a shorter frame can still pull off this look by wearing a higher waisted skirt with a cropped blouse or top and heels, this creates more length to elongate your frame.

White collared shirt.  Yep, that's right, this old classic is back!  You'll see more feminine cuts and styles, but don't be afraid throw on that button-down with your favorite pair of leggings. I happen to adore the one we shared here because of the fun pleating in the back.  Speaking of pleating, that's another great trend for 2014!

Wide- leg pants.  Oh boy, don't get my wrong, my jeggings are nice and comfy, but seriously, I'm ready for the wide-legs to make their come back!  I can't resist a masculine, yet feminie trouser and a good wide-leg can really create that "power look" when in the office!

Sweater dressing.  Okay, I borrowed this term from Glamour magazine, but I don't think they will mind.  This is when you take that old grandpa sweater that you bought during the "poppin' tags" phase (thank you macklemore) and throw it on with a babydoll skirt or dress or a fancy pair of slacks. Dress it up with something more formal on the bottom and whaaala....sweater dressing!

Boxy cuts.  Okay, so this one isn't exactly my personal favorite because I can't resist a nice, sophisticated tailored look, but the boxy, straight cut jackets and shift style dresses are back.  If you love the mod era, then you'll love that this trend is resurfacing!

So, I hope this helps you as you throw something together for whatever it is that you plan to do to ring in the new year!  Seeing how styles really do come back around, you may even already have some of these fashion trends hanging in the waaaaaayyy back, dark corners of your closet!

Happy styling! ;)

First Entry...Welcome!

Well, this is it, my first official blog post!  Yikes...please don't judge!  I'm new to this whole blog thing, so please bear with me as I get this all figured out.  Creating a blog was on my "bucket list" and well, seeing how another new year is approaching, I figured there was no better time than the present to get it started!  Oh, and thank goodness for etsy, I was able to find a wonderful person to make this blog look pretty (shout out to teach*pray*love designs) because Lord knows I couldn't have done this on my own!

So, what am I going to write about, you ask?  Well, pretty much everything!  I love talking, so translating that into typing should be no problem.  I love my husband, job, fashion, runway shows, coordinating events, pageantry and cats...oh yes, I can't forget about cats (I do have 3 ya know, so they are kind of hard for me to forget about).  Anyways, my real passion is helping others find their passion.  This past summer, as a "hobby-job", I started a coaching business.  No, you won't be able to learn the fine skill of golf and you won't be able to fix that leaky faucet from the skills that I coach, but I do hope to help you learn a little bit more about yourself.  My coaching business, Studio K Coaching, is for those looking to pursue modeling, acting or pageantry, but I also help people gain self-confidence so they can conquer the goals that they have set for themselves...whatever those may be.  You'd be surprised how getting up on a runway can help you overcome some of your fears, but that's what I love about this industry, there's so much more to it than what's on the surface!

Anyways, I hope that you will enjoy some of the things that I post. They may not be life changing, but I hope that you can maybe learn one or two new things from me and follow some of the fun I am having with coaching and helping others too!

Thanks for checking out my new digs.  Enjoy!
